Philanthropy Colorado will host a virtual gathering to discuss timely topics for our members. On the first part of the call, we’ll get an update and engage in a discussion about a proposed November 2021 ballot initiative and demonstration project for out-of-school learning called LEAP (Learning Enrichment and Academic Progress). The effort aims to distribute money to low-income families by raising $150 million a year through a marijuana tax and state land board revenue. Families would be able to choose the qualified providers of their choice for their kids’ out-of-school learning experiences.
Several Colorado funders are involved in this effort. The demonstration project running this summer and early fall will show how the concept works, using philanthropic funds in several different geographies (Denver, Colorado Springs, Grand Junction, Vilas and possibly Roaring Fork Valley). Members will have the opportunity to ask questions about these efforts.
We'll also get a brief update from Together We Protect (Colorado COVID-19 Vaccine Equity Fund) on take-aways from first round of grantees and next steps.
Do you have a timely topic you'd like to discuss with your philanthropic colleagues on this videoconference? Please reach out to Amy Swiatek with your suggestions and any questions.
